  Groupwork

C. Groupwork. Read the poem again. Answer the questions.

1. Does the author of the poem prefer the country or the city? How do you know? Underline the lines in the poem that tells you the answer.

Answer The author of the poem prefers the country. In the poem, the author wants to go to his country again. He describes the beauty of the country in the poem rather than the city. He uses lines like, “take me away / to the country again”, “As sweet as the sun / In the country is rain” .

2. Do you prefer the city or the country? Why?

Answer I prefer the country. The country is full of nature, green trees are everywhere and there are little ponds. These amaze me and thus I feel the country is more beautiful and peaceful than the city.

3. What differences do the poet note between the streets and roads?

Answer The streets are of the country, and the road are of cities. The poet mentions the blue carts, sweet-smelling hay, mangolds, and grain seen on country streets. On the other hand, the city roads have trams, chimneys, pavements and lamp-posts.
