B. Read the text and answer the following questions.

Folk songs are songs sung in the traditional style of a community or country. Here the traditional style includes the themes, words and tunes of the songs that have existed for a long time among the common people. We have a rich history and collection of folk songs in Bangladesh. Of them Palligiti, Bhatiali, Bhawaiya, Jari, Sari, Gambhira, Lalongiti, Palagaan and songs of Hason Raja are very popular. The traditional musical instruments are usually played with these songs.

1. Who usually likes our folk songs?

Answer Common people usually like our folk songs.

2. Can you name some well known folk singers?

Answer Some well-known folk singers include artists like Abbas Uddin, Abdul Alim, Shah Abdul Karim, Kuddus Boyati, Bari Siddiki and others.

3. Do you like folk songs? If you do, who is your favourite folk singer? Which song or songs do you like most?

Answer Yes, I like folk songs very much. My favourite folk singer is Bari Siddiki.

4. Look at the musical instruments in Activity A above and say which instruments go well with the folk songs.

Answer The instruments which go well with folk songs are- Dotara, sarinda, bamboo flute, harmonium, ek -tara and violin.

5. Discuss in groups whether the modern instruments like the guitar and the piano could be played with the folk songs.

Answer Discuss.

6. Have you ever gone to a folk song festival? If yes, how was it?

Answer Yes, I have gone to a folk song festival few days back. It was a mesmerizing experience. The ambience of the festival was so remarkable. Famous folk singers came to the festival and amazed the audience with their voice.

7. Would you like to learn playing any of the above instruments? Why or why not?

Answer Yes, I would like to learn piano. Because it attracts me so much. The symphony of piano makes me wonder every time.
