A Village Market
Market is the place where one can buy the daily necessaries altogether within a short time. A village market is one of the public places in village where different types of people assemble from different areas to buy and sell commodities, necessary for everyday life. So, it is an important place in Bangladeshi rural areas for its variety as well as social and economic significance.
First of all, village markets have variations of time duration, site and locations and arrangements. There are generally two kinds of village markets—the daily market and the weekly market. The daily market is called 'bazaar'. It sits daily in the morning. The weekly market is called 'haat'. It sits once or twice a week in the forenoon and continues up to late in the evening. A village market generally locates at a place where people from different places can easily come for buying and selling different goods. So, a village market usually stands by the side of a river or canal or at the junction of roads or near a railway station. The shops in a village market are arranged in a systematic way. Generally three types of shops are seen in the village market. They are permanent shops, temporary shops and open space shops. Most importantly , these shops sell various types of daily necessaries like fish, milk, fruit, betel leaves, vegetables, oil, rice, salt, pepper, spices, clothes, stationaries and so on.
Secondly, the village market is of great use and importance to the villagers. Here they get all the necessary things of their daily use. As such they need not go to distant places to buy and sell things.it is an important buying and selling center for the villagers. It is the back-bone of the rural economy.
Apart from its practical utility, it also has its social value. It brings people of different villages closer and thus strengthens the bond of their unity. It is an important place for village politics and a place of entertainment for the villagers too. There are some people who come here only to pass a pleasant time by roaming about.
A village market is a place of gathering of a vast number of people providing opportunities for views and news let alone buying and selling daily necessaries. Though the village market is a noisy, dusty and unhealthy place, yet it is an integral part of village life. Proper care and arrangements should be made for the improvement of the unsatisfactory condition of the village market.
Duties of Students
Students are the future leaders and torchbearers of a country. They shape the future of a nation. As a valued member of the country, students have certain responsibilities towards it. Performing these duties is essential to ensure the development of the student as an individual as well as a part of the society. Regular academic study, performing social responsibilities, cultivating character are some of the prime duties of a student.
Firstly, students should focus on their study. Student life is the best time to acquire knowledge and skills that will help them in real life. Students should utilize their time properly to enrich their mind. Students should not limit themselves to only academic study. Moreover, they should acquire knowledge about history, culture, literature, nature and various other aspects of life. They should not waste their time gossiping around and doing unproductive works. They have to be disciplined to achieve maximum from this period of life.
Secondly, apart from the academic study the nation demands other services from the students. Students are usually young, energetic and creative. They have the ability to make a difference in the society. They can help to keep the cities clean, raise social awareness, protest against social misconceptions and take other productive measures. They are the active citizens of the country. They are often young and vulnerable and can be misled. However, only they can bring the positive change required for an ever developing country. So, students should actively participate in social events and duties.
Finally, students should nurture the qualities of justice, truthfulness, morality etc. from a very early age. A person who embodies good characteristics is an asset to the country. As the future leaders, these qualities are essential for them. Without them, all the acquired knowledge will be meaningless. Students should also respect their parents and elderly persons. It is hoped that they will take care of their younger brothers and sisters. Pursuing good character is, therefore, a very important duty of a student.
Students are the driving force of a nation. They have various duties and responsibilities towards the country and the nation. These duties should be taken seriously by the students. They should perform the duties to ensure proper personal as well as national growth.
My Favourite Game
Various types of games are played in our country. We can divide them into two types – indoor and outdoor games. Chess, cards, ludo, carom etc. are indoor games. Hockey, football, cricket, basketball, tennis, badminton etc. are outdoor games. As I am a sports loving person, I take part in all the outdoor games. Among all the outdoor sports, the game which I like most is football. I like football because it brings a sense of discipline and a habit of endurance in us. It is a good exercise and it is very economical to conduct.
I prefer football to any other game because football helps our body to grow. It brings a sense of discipline and a habit of endurance in us. Like hockey or cricket, football is played by two teams of eleven players. A team consists of five forwards, three half backs, two full backs and one goalkeeper. The player kicks the ball with his feet. But he may touch it with any other part except with his hands. The goalkeeper, however, can use his hands as well. A player may be tempted to push an opponent to go far ahead of the ball near the opposite goal. So, pushing and off side are regarded as a foul play. The penalty for a foul is free kick by a player of the opposite team. The fewer fouls you make, the more chances you have to win the game. One must need to follow the rules to play the game. As the game teaches discipline, a good football player who always follows the rule of the game is sure to succeed in any walk of life. He can make himself a great soldier to defend his country. He can be a clever statesman to run the government.
The game of football ensures good exercise. It strengthens the power of our muscles. It also helps to have a good blood circulation process throughout the body. It helps one to be vigilant and alert. It encourages team spirit. Football is a very good way to be physically and mentally healthy.
Another reason behind my choice is that it is very economical. It does not require costly equipment. A ball and a well levelled ground is all that is required to start our game. And then it is easy to pick up its rules. Players begin to play it from a very young age.
The game of football can create the sense of discipline, can provide a good way of exercise and can be very economical. These are the reasons why football is my most favourite game. Nowadays, the game of football is being encouraged in Bangladesh. I do support Bangladeshi football team and also dream of being a football player and win FIFA World Cup for Bangladesh one day.
My Future Plan in Life
An aim is the final destination where a man wants to settle down to lead a happy life. Everybody should have an aim in life. Those who have no aim in life are like a ship without a rudder or an envelope without an address. Different people adopt different aims according to their inclination or taste or pocket. My aim, however, is to be a teacher. I want to be teacher because teaching is a noble profession, it ensures honest living and I think I have the necessary skills for being a teacher.
The first reason to choose teaching as future profession is that teaching is the noblest form of profession. He can serve his society and country in the best possible way. He is a nation-builder. He can mould the destiny, shape the future and can ennoble the minds of the students who are the wealth, pride and future of the country. In a democracy where every adult is a voter, education is of utmost importance. A teacher alone can impart the right type of education and make the students ideal citizens. He can inculcate refined qualities in the young minds and create patriotic fervor in them. If teachers are efficient and serve as torch-bearers to the students, our democracy will have a bright future.
Another reason of choosing teaching is that a teacher can earn an honest and independent living. I know that teachers in these days are ill-paid and can hardly make both ends meet. But money is not the only consideration with me. He lives among the smiling faces and young hearts. So, he neither becomes old nor feels sad.
Lastly , I think I have the skills of being a teacher and so I want to be a teacher in future. I am good at illustrating topics and different subjects. I can make people understand . Furthermore , I am good at giving inspiration to others . I think a teacher needs to have the quality of persuading and motivating.
Teaching is the profession of the noble , honest and skilled persons and so I want to be a teacher in the future . I want to be one of the best teacher in my area where I would work at future and want to be appreciated by my students. Hence, I want to contribute to building a developed country.

The Blessings of Modern Science
Once upon a time man had to bend his knees before the might of nature. Today he commands nature. Science has brought on so many blessings in human's life. Science has revolutionised every aspect of the present-day civilization, beyond all comprehension. The blessings of science can be categorised in four types: machinery for daily works, machinery in medical science, machinery for transportation and communication and machinery for advanced technology.
One of the great contributions of modern science is that it has made our life easy, comfortable, luxurious and least burdensome with the access to different sorts of machinery. All kinds of manual works are being replaced by machines or computer controlled machinery. Today work is a matter of pressing buttons and controlling the whole process from air-conditioned rooms. Science has not only made our life easy but has also profoundly improved our standard of living. Shabbily built wooden houses are being replaced by well-furnished modern flats.
The usual household chores such as, sweeping, washing, cleaning, cooking, etc., are no longer time consuming endeavours. Washing machines, vacuum cleaners, microwave-ovens, cars, PCs , TVs, VCRs, digital receivers, air coolers, air condition facilities, etc., are not only possessed by the rich, but also by most average middle-class families. Science has brought in tremendous improvements in people’s standard of living.
Another major contribution of science has been in the field of health and medical care. Once upon a time hundreds perished as a result of incurable diseases and ailments. Today except for few diseases such as, Cancer and Aids, everything else is curable. Ours is an age of heart transplants, brain operations, pinhole surgeries and test-tube babies. Science has also revolutionised the fields of agriculture and food production. H.Y.V. seeds (High yielding varieties), better pesticides and excellent fertilizers developed by the scientists have increased our food production and brought green revolution in our country.
In addition, science has also changed the very face of our travel and communication. Travel was once upon a time dreaded upon. Today it is a pleasure. Today it is faster, comfortable and luxurious. Communication has taken a leap. Distance is no longer a barrier. Television and Internet have made our world a small place to live in. Events taking place thousands of miles away can be watched live sitting in our living rooms. Today one need not cross borders to watch International matches and ‘World Cups’.
Again , science is creating a more advanced and digitalized world .Advancement of technology have made things possible to that extend that anything is available at doorstep at the click of a switch. The blessings of modern science are also clearly visible in the fields of industry, power generation, space exploration, defence, entertainment, trade, etc. Huge machineries, nuclear power stations, supercomputers, remote-controlled fighter planes, supersonic jets, mighty ships, sharp radars, long-range missiles, rockets, satellites, space shuttles, etc. are the products of modern science.
Science has totally changed the very face of our existence by contributing in the field of our style of living, working, travel, communication, medical care, industries, agriculture and our entire economy. Our present-day civilization is indeed a gift of the modern science. However, this same science can be used for the destruction and end of mankind. It is a great tool in our hands which can be twisted to suit us or to harm us. It all depends on how we use it.
The Prize Giving Ceremony of Our School
A prize giving ceremony is observed every year in every school. Prizes are distributed among several students who have achieved excellence in different respects in that year. Our school also observe prize giving ceremony with a festive mood. The prize giving day at our school is a day of glorious celebration as it is a programme of all the students and the teachers, it spreads a festive mood in the school and it brings smile to the winners of academic and co-curricular best activities.
The day has a special significance for the students and teachers. Many respectable ladies and gentlemen including the guardians of the students are invited to the occasion. An important person is invited to the occasion for distributing the prizes. Arrangement of the event is usually a combined effort of the teachers and students.
Another significant feature of the prize giving ceremony is that an aroma of pleasure runs everywhere in the school campus this day. The school is decorated with flags and festoons. In the evening the attractive decoration of electric light arrests everybody's attention and creates an impression of a paradise on earth. This year the annual prize distribution was held on the 20th March. A dais was erected in front of our school and was decorated with colourful flowers. Students made an attractive gate to greet the visitors and the guest of honour.
The most important part of the prize giving ceremony is that the Chief Guest distributes the Prizes. Prizes are awarded to the students for regular attendance, for general proficiency, for excellence in sports, etc. The winners came to the dais to receive prizes from the Chief Guest one by one. They are cheered by the audience. This year, Mr. Bose, the Editor of a newspaper, was invited as the Chief Guest. The meeting started with an opening chorus by the students. The Headmaster read the Annual Report of the school. In the report he summarised the all-round performance of the students of our school. The distribution of prizes was followed by an impressive speech by the guest of honour. He encouraged the students to be 'brave and hard-working’. He also spoke a few words about such virtues as honesty, discipline and punctuality. He adored the winners and told others not to be disheartened.
The reunion of all the teachers and students, the colourful atmosphere of the school and undoubtedly the prize taking segment of the winners are the main attractions the prize giving ceremony of our school. It is the most awaited programme of our school. Hopefully, every year's prize giving ceremony will turn out to be a grand success at our school.
The Season I Like Most
Seasons change with the change in nature. Summer, rainy, winter and spring are the seasons in our tropical continent. Every season has its own unique features. Despite the various draw backs of the summer season, it is the season I like most because of its long vacation and seasonal sweet fruits and drinks.
The most important reason for which I like summer season is that the end of the spring is the beginning of summer and I welcome this change as it is the sign of fast approaching summer vacations. These holidays are always awaited. They are a relief from the heavy book load, tedious study schedule of school and difficult assignments and brain raking examinations. Holidays means no fixed routine and I can spend my time as I please.
Another reason of my fondness of summer is many delicious fruits that come only in this season. Watermelons, grapes and the king of fruits- mangoes are my fond temptations. I love ice-cream. As there is little fear of cold and coughs I eat plenty of it. Nothing can hold me back from cold coffee with ice-cream and ice-cream soda. I can fulfil all my desires in taste during summer.
However, during summer season the intense heat and the scorching sun rays are curses. People prefer to stay indoors. Many areas face the problem of water scarcity. Almost every year during summer epidemic breaks out. Still it is my favourite season as I can play and splash in the cool waters of the pond in the company of my friends.
In spite of having some major drawbacks, summer is the favourite season to me because it brings a long vacation and delicious fruits and drinks to enjoy. I enjoy summer to a great extent. But, people in general may not like the season as I do .
The Value of Time
There is a saying “Time and tide waits for none”. The saying is indeed true. Time waits for none. It comes and goes. Time is absolutely without any bound. Neither money nor position can buy it. Nothing on earth can subdue or conquer it. Time is the most valuable fact in our today's life because of its preciousness, surprises and uniqueness.
The most remarkable feature of time is its preciousness. Its value is unfathomable and its power is inestimable. Its potential is something which we cannot calculate. A minute is enough to win a victory. A second is enough to make you the richest man in the world. A fraction of a second can make a difference between life and death.
Again, time brings surprises .Every moment brings with it thousands of golden opportunities. Every minute is a store-house of ‘chances’. Therefore, we must not allow such precious time to slip away. If we do so, we allow those golden opportunities and chances to slip away too.
The most unique feature of time is that it never comes back. As we go through life, we realise for ourselves that, if there is anything in the world which will never come back, it is time. Once time crosses into the threshold of the past, it never again returns to the ‘present’. Those who have realised this basic truth of life, never allow time to pass away unused. To utilise time fruitfully, we must take concrete steps as to how we are going to use it and what we are going to do with it. Until and unless we set up a time-table for ourselves and make a general division of time for the various tasks and jobs at our hand, time will keep slipping away with its golden opportunities unnoticed. Unplanned living is the surest way to kill time.
If we want to succeed in life we ought to chalk out what we are going to do with the minutes, hours, days, months and years at our disposal. This is the first step to success. Secondly, work must never be postponed; tomorrow’ may never materialise. We can only be sure of the present’ which in our hands. Postponement and laziness are the ropes which strangle time. Thus, time can create us or destroy us. It all depends on how we utilise time.
