D. Answer the following questions. First discuss in pairs, then write the answers individually.
1. Why did the young man leave his house?
Answer The young man left his house because his life was full of problems and sufferings and he wanted to avoid all the quarrels, ill-feeling, jealousy and enmity of his village.
2. Where did he make a hut? What did he make the hut with?
Answer He made a hut in a jungle. It was made of wood, bamboo and reeds.
3. Was the man happy in his hut?
Answer Yes, he was happy in his hut until he found mice in his hut.
4. How did he find himself again in a family?
Answer He brought a cat to get rid of mice which were making holes in his blanket. Later, the cat needed milk, so how brought a cow. Then, a cowboy was brought to feed cow. The cowboy needed food, so he brought a wife to cook meals. The children were born to them, and this is how the man found himself in a family again.
5. Where and how can a person be happy?
Answer A person can be happy by living in a family or community where he/she can find companions to fulfill his/her needs.
6. What is the moral of the story?
Answer The moral of the story is that a person should always live in a community in order to lead a good and happy life.
7. What were the parts of his everyday life?
Answer The common affairs of everyday life such as quarrels, ill-fillings, jealousy, enmity etc. were the parts of his everyday life.
8. What did he find first in his hut?
Answer He found some mice cutting holes in his blanket.
9. Who can live alone?
Answer Only a saintly person or a devil can live alone.
F. Discuss in pairs and write the answer to the following question
1. What can we do at home and in the locality to become good citizens?
Answer We can behave well with our family members, and share our joys and problems with them. We can also help other family members in their tasks whenever we are free. Similarly, we can cultivate genuine sympathy for the members of our locality especially for the weak and poor, and come to their aid whenever possible. Moreover, we must not quarrel with anyone and develop friendly relations with the people of over community.
2. What do you think are the qualities of an ideal citizen?
Answer An ideal citizen is he/ she who is aware of her duties and responsibilities to the community. Ideal citizens stand by the side of others in need. They abide by the rules and law of the country.
