Responsibilities
Pair Work
D. Look at the picture. Work in pairs.
Suppose this road is near your school. As students of this school, what responsibilities do you think you have to get rid of this nuisance? Make a list of things that you will do.
These are some of the things we can do to get rid of the nuisance:
a) Call my friends for a meeting
b) Form a group of volunteers
c) Inform the City Corporation authority to help us
d) Ask the cleaners to clean the area and dump the waste.
e) Request the City Corporation authority to move the garbage bin away from our way to the school.
f) Put up posters saying, “Please do not dispose any garbage here”
E. Write about an incident where you acted as a responsible person within 200 words.
One day when I was crossing the road, I found an old woman begging by the road-side. It was very cold. The old woman was wrapped in a very thin and torn piece of cloth and was shivering with cold. She was shivering so fervently that I could hear the chattering of her teeth. I removed my jacket and wanted to help her, but was really tough for me to go to school without a jacket. I searched my pocket only to find two notes of ten taka-not enough to buy her winter cloth. So, I went to her and asked her to wait for me until I return. As soon I reached school, I told the incidence to my classmates. Some good souls came forward and gave away the money that they brought to buy their tiffin. I thanked them and quickly went to the nearby market. I collected 400 taka. I bought a nice woolen blanket with 300 taka. Then I rushed to the place where I saw the woman. I was a little worried because I thought she would leave. However, she was waiting for me there still. I gave her the blanket and the rest of the money to buy food. She could not say anything and kept looking at me with tears swelling in her eyes. I think it is the responsibility of a good citizen to help people in distress. That is exactly what I did.
