An invitation for Robin
Introduction
A. Robin is very much excited to get a letter from his cousin for attending the Nobanno celebration.
Dear Robin,
How are you? Hope, you are well by the grace of the Almighty. I haven’t written to you for a long time. Now that we’re going to celebrate our Nobanno, a post-harvesting festival, the next week, I couldn’t but invite you. We’d like you to come and celebrate the festival with us. I’ll tell you why. Nobanno is celebrated during the Bengali month of Hemonto after the harvesting is done, especially in the villages. The farmers have new crops heaped in their homes. Different types of paddies are harvested and processed to get rice from them. Women prepare different types of pithas and other food from the new rice flour. But the most special of them is the “kheer”, a very sweet dish made of scented rice, jaggery, milk and coconut. Families exchange these foods with one another. The whole village is in a festive mood. There goes a saying that happiness increases when shared with others. So, I want you to visit us and be a part of the celebration. I’d really be happy to have you here. Would you like to join us? You will love it, I assure you. Waiting to welcome you.
Give my salam to aunt and uncle. Write to me soon and let me know when you’ll arrive. Please, remember to bring some warm clothes.
Yours,
Hamid
