story telling Introduction

B. Read the following interview of a rickshaw puller talking about his profession.

Interviewer:     What’s your name?

Ratan:              My name is Ratan.

Interviewer:     Well, how long have you been pulling this rickshaw, Ratan?

Ratan:             Umm… around five years. Can’t remember exactly. I started this job when I was seventeen.

Interviewer:     What do you think about this profession? Is it good?

Ratan:         Yes, Sir. I think it is good. To me, every profession is noble. No job is petty or mean. This profession is also important, basically, for the middle class common people. They don’t have their private transport. Public transport like buses is not always available. And most of the time they are overcrowded. So, among all other public transports, rickshaws are the most suitable vehicle for both short and long distance. They are comfortable, too. Even the rich people sometimes need rickshaw when their private vehicles are damaged. So, I think I help people of every class with my service.

Interviewer:             Yes, Ratan. I also agree with you. Thank you for your time.

C. Read the following story that Rubel tells us about how he was helped by the security guard at his school.

It was the last day at school before the summer vacation. We were all very excited. Just before the last period, there were heavy clouds in the sky, and everything outside became dark suddenly.
A storm was about to break out. So, our principle asked us to go home as soon as possible. Among all my classmates, my house was the farthest. I couldn’t find any rickshaw. Meanwhile, strong wind started to blow. Soon the school was empty. I was waiting at the school gate terrified of the lightning and of being left alone. Just then the security guard, our Rashed Uncle, came forward and asked me to go into the room for the security guards. I got relieved and hurried there. It started hailing soon. As I waited there for the weather to become calmer, my anxiety increased at the thought of my parents. “They must be very anxious about me. If only I could inform them that I was safe!”, I wished. Right then Rashid Uncle said, “Your parents must be worrying about you. Here, take my cell phone and call them.” I took the mobile with eyes filled with gratitude and called my parents to inform them that I was safe. The rain continued for another half an hour. As the rain ceased a little, my father came to fetch me. We both thanked Rashid Uncle a lot. I will never forget Rashid Uncle for his help.
