C2. Answer the following questions in short.

i.Why did the principle ask the students to go home early?

As there were clouds in the sky, and everything around was getting dark, the principle asked the students to go home early.

ii.Why couldn’t Rubel go home?

Because of the rough weather, Rubel did not get any rickshaw. So, he could not go home.

iii.Why was he terrified?

Rubel was terrified at the thought of being left alone at the school in that terrible storm.

iv.Who helped Rubel and how?

The security guard, Rashid Uncle, helped Rubel. He asked him to take shelter in the guards’ room. He also lent his cell phone to Rubel so that he could call his parents and inform them that he was safe.

v.Why did Rubel and his father thank Rashid Uncle, the security guard?

They thanked him because he saved Rubel from danger when nobody was available to help.

N. B. Notice that some of the verbs in italics (ask, start, hurry, increase, wish, fill, continue, cease and thank) have taken ‘-ed’/‘-d’ at the end to form its past form. Do not overlook the change in the spelling of ‘hurry’. Others (become, come and take) have followed a different rule having internal changes in their spelling. The first type of verbs is called weak verbs, while the second type of verbs is called strong verbs.
