It is Friday. Mrs. Rehana is reading the daily newspaper in the morning. She finds a special feature about “Sonamukh Honesty Shop”. It is in a school in Dumuriya Thana of Manikgonj district. It is a shop where the price of things are mentioned, and there is no shopkeeper. Students come to the shop, pick up an item kept in a basket, see the price written on a price of paper and keep the money in a box. Mrs. Rehana is very much charmed by the idea. The next day she talks to the headmaster about opening a similar shop in her school.
“Sir, I think, the teachers can donate some amount of money to set up such a shop. It will not cost a lot”, argues Mrs. Rehana. “It will be a very good idea to teach honesty to our students”, she continues. The Headmaster becomes convinced and promises that there will be an “Honesty shop” the next month. Mrs. Rehana goes to the class and breaks the good news to her students. “Remember we’re talking about a fixed price shop in our last class? We’re also going to have a similar kind of shop. There will be things at a fixed price. On top of it, there will be no shopkeeper,” says Mrs. Rehana. The students were very surprised to hear that there will be no shopkeeper. One of them asks what will happen if a student picks up a thing and doesn’t pay the price. She replies, “Nobody will do that if a person is really honest.”
