Mike writes about his visit to Jamalpur School
Introduction
A. Read the following text.
Today I went to Jamalpur to visit a school there. The name of the school is Jamalpur School. All the teachers and students welcomed me cordially. The school building and classrooms are very colourful and nicely decorated. The students were very attentive in their lessons. When a passage in English was to be read, every student wanted to show me the ability to read and write in English. I took a projector, speaker and a laptop with me. The students settled down in a room and the projector was set-up. The event took place for half an hour. I showed them different pictures and short films on how water gets polluted and how dangerous it can be to our health. The children were made aware of water pollution. All the teachers and students acted very cordial. The Head Master was also very nice to me. After visiting the school, I went on to visiting some of the houses in the village on a bullock-cart. I did not like the cart ride very much as the cart did not have any hood. Some of the families welcomed me with local foods which I liked a lot. I talked to the people about the need for pure water. I also made them aware of arsenic-infested water. I met Rashed there. He is a very nice boy. His hobby is gardening. He has a beautiful small garden beside his house. I liked his garden very much. There were beautiful flowers blooming in the garden.
I asked the students about their hobbies. Most of them mentioned reading as their hobby. The school already has a library, but there are not enough books for the children. So, I am planning to set up a library in the village. There will be books both in Bengali and English. I think the availability of books in both the school and village will bring opportunities to read for both students and parents and encourage parents to read with their children. My visit to Jamalpur village is a memorable one.
